Jiří Woitsch was born in 1976. Since 1999 he works in the Institute of ethnology CAS, p.r.i. and is still a PhD. student at the Department of Czech History, Charles University in Prague. He also gives lectures at the Department of Anthropology, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. His research interests are material culture of early-modern village (vernacular architecture, crafts and agriculture), ethno-cartography, history of ethnography in the Central Europe as well as environmental history. He is editor-in-chief of Český lid: Ethnological journal. He published several books and articles in the Czech Republic and abroad including Zapomenutá potaš: Drasláři a draslářství v 18. a 19. století [Forgotten potash. Potash makers and potash making in the 18. and 19. centuries] (Praha 2003) or Etnografický atlas Čech, Moravy a Slezska - V.: Židovské obyvatelstvo v Čechách v letech 1792–1794 [Jewish inhabitants in Bohemia in the years 1792 to 1794](Praha 2007, with I. Ebelová, M. Řezníček a K. Woitschová). He is married and he listens to punk music.
